All staff and postgrad students are invited to attend a research seminar on the topic of 'Engaged scholarship in entrepreneurship and small business research', being held on Thursday, 22 October at 12 noon.

This seminar is hosted by Waikato Management School and the New Zealand Institute for Business Research (NZIBR).

The speaker is Dr Jonathan M. Scott, Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management.

In this presentation Dr Scott will discuss the effectiveness of engaged scholarship approaches and how this process enables management scholars to engage with small businesses and entrepreneurs.

He will explore this approach by addressing two questions: 1) How do universities (or business schools) engage with small firms in scholarly related activities? 2) What are the implications of such engagement for their business?

Dr Scott's most recent publications include an introduction to The Research Handbook on Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies (2020) and the book chapter 'Why entrepreneurship failed to emerge in “developing countries”: The case of colonial Africa (1952–1972)', in The Palgrave Handbook of Management History (2020).
