Dr Amanda Williamson, a lecturer in innovation and strategy at Waikato Management School, will give a research seminar on Tuesday, 4 June on ‘Sleep as a tool for innovation?’.
This seminar is open to all staff and students, and will be held in MSB.4.02, starting at 1pm.
It is hosted by Waikato Management School and the New Zealand Institute for Business Research - Enterprise Innovation Unit.
Innovative behaviour at the individual level is critical for entrepreneurship and innovation, yet little is known about why and when an individual is more (or less) innovative.
In this seminar, Dr Williamson will elucidate the interesting, yet often overlooked role, that sleep has on innovative behaviour.
She will present the findings of a recent study of 121 entrepreneurs, which illustrate that their day-level innovative behaviour is susceptible to significant fluctuation.
Dr Williamson says sleep as a resource renewal activity plays a key role in influencing entrepreneurs' innovative behaviours. Mood also plays an important role in this process.
Implications for theory and future research will be discussed.
Dr Williamson undertook her PhD at Sheffield University on the dark side of entrepreneurship. Her research examines entrepreneurship through a psychological lens, using innovative research methods like machine learning and experience sampling methodologies.
She currently teaches strategic management in the Master of Business and management programme.
