Distinguished Visiting Professor Dr Jan Hendrik Fisch will lead a workshop on Tuesday, 10 December on the topic of 'Hiring consultants to overcome the challenge of leveraging previous market experience in new markets.
Dr Fisch is a Professor of International Business at Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) in Austria, and a Research Fellow at Waikato University. His research is focused on strategy and organisation in the fields of innovation management and international business.
This workshop is hosted by the New Zealand Institute for Business Research and will be held in Waikato Management School's Executive Education Teaching Rooms, MSB.1.36/1.37, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.
Professor Fisch uses an information economics perspective to argue that firms seconding corporate managers to transfer their experience to a new market environment benefit from complementing these managers with business consultants from that new environment.
An analysis of 1,303 international new market entries provides evidence of such practice and suggests that experienced firms are more inclined to hire consultants when deploying a new market entry strategy than inexperienced firms are.
