|Date||Wednesday 28 April 2021|
|Time||1pm - 2pm|
|Presenter||Dr Rebecca Dudley and Katy Armstong|
The Waikato Public Law and Policy Research Unit is holding its second public session of 2021 via Zoom.
“Immigration: Humanitarian Perspectives and the Process during the Pandemic”
We are delighted to have two distinguished presenters. Dr. Rebecca Dudley, the International Humanitarian Law advisor to the New Zealand Red Cross, and Katy Armstrong, a frequent speaker on New Zealand immigration issues who acted as Consultant to the New Zealand Association of Migration & Investment.
Dr Dudley will describe the work by the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement to promote humanitarian support to vulnerable migrants at all stages of migration journey. This involves the dynamic and practical interaction of two components: principled humanitarian action and legal frameworks that can protect vulnerable people. Katy Armstrong will talk on immigration issues in the context of Covid 19.
Dr Rebecca Dudley has a PhD and an LLM in international law from Queen's University Belfast. She received a BA from Yale University.
Katy Armstrong is a fully licensed New Zealand immigration adviser. Originally a Barrister in London followed by a stint as human rights lawyer in Guatemala, Katy made New Zealand her home from 1998. Katy has strong practical as well as legal advocacy skills. She is also a contributing author of the 2014 New Zealand Immigration & Refugee law textbook. In 2014, Katy was part of a working group whose advocacy led to the re-opening of over 450 partnership cases decided by the New Delhi Branch of Immigration New Zealand.
