This free online event, centred at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand, supports COP26 and its global wake-up call on climate change. It aims to connect people locally and globally, and to highlight the urgency of climate change
Initiated by the Waikato members of CHEC (Commonwealth Human Ecology Council), including Associate Professor Tom Roa from the University’s Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies, the event is supported by Ministers Nanaia Mahuta and James Shaw.
Over a two-week period, the Waikato project will bring together local climate change leaders and advocates from academia, government, the community, iwi, grassroots organisations and business to reflect on the themes and concerns emerging from COP26.
Although we are half a world away, we are united in our concerns around climate change.
The Waikato initiative focuses on Māori and Indigenous and grassroots community perspectives. These groups are the most vulnerable to the threat and effects of climate change.
