Springer Nature Online Author Symposium

Looking to get published? In cooperation with the University of Waikato Library Springer Nature is hosting an online Author Symposium on Book and Journal Publishing on July 14 (Tuesday), 2:00pm - 3:30pm NZ time. Find out about the role of publishing in today’s academic environment, how to decide what publications are right for your research, and what new developments such as open access mean for academics and researchers. The talk is divided into two sessions.
Part one – Academic book publishing with Springer and Palgrave Macmillan (2pm)
Editors Grace Ma (Springer) and Lucie Bartonek (Springer) will present on the following topics:
- Introduction & our fields of coverage
- The benefits of publishing books for authors
- The book publication process
- Various book publication types
- Avenues of book dissemination, including OA
Part two – A journal editor’s perspective (3pm)
Editor Steve McMillan (Adis) will present on the following topics:
- What an Editor looks for in a manuscript
Grace Ma is Springer’s education research commissioning editor, based in Singapore. She covers books from Southeast Asia, Australia & New Zealand. She commissions monographs, edited collections, reference works and textbooks as well as SpringerBriefs.
Lucie Bartonek is Springer’s Melbourne-based Editor for Business , Economics, Politics and Law. Lucie is manages commissioning publications throughout Asia-Pacific. Lucie is directly responsible for books, book series and major reference works with a focus on authors and editors in Australia and New Zealand. Lucie joined Springer in 2019 and has worked in Scholarly and Professional publishing for over five years with 500+ publications under her hat across varied and diverse subjects to ultimately enhance, improve and shape better learning. Lucie’s passion is in the procurement of cutting-edge research from Australian academics to ultimately share and publish for global reach.
Steve McMillan is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Springer journals Sports Medicine and Sports Medicine – Open. He has been working at the Adis Editorial Office in Auckland for 15 years, since completing a Master’s degree in Sport & Exercise Science. Steve began work as a medical writer, before progressing on to become a newsletter editor and journal editor. He has been involved with the journal Sports Medicine since 2014, and led the launch of Sports Medicine – Open in 2015.
