School of Science Seminar: "Journeys in Soil and Environmental Sciences"
|Date||Wednesday 9 May 2018|
|Time||3pm - 4pm|
|Presenter||Dr Megan Balks (University of Waikato)|
Dr Megan Balks recently “retired” from the University, six weeks short of the 30th anniversary of her arrival here in April 1988. In the course of her career Megan has taught an estimated 6 000 first year students, spent, cumulatively, more than a year living in a tent in Antarctica, and overseen more than 50 successfully completed graduate theses. She will reflect on some of the highlights of her career, including her rural upbringing, adventures in Antarctica and other parts of the world, and the joy of working with students. She will also share some personal insights into changes that have occurred over time, particularly for women working in science.
