When adults talk about the past with children in elaborative ways, young children recall more information about events and recount their memories to others via more detailed narratives. What is the long-term impact of elaborative reminiscing for young people? Professor Elaine Reese will present data on long-term effects at ages 15 and 21 of Growing Memories, a reminiscing intervention with parents for young people’s life stories and well-being. She will also introduce a new project with early childhood teachers, Kia Tīmata Pai (To Start Well), that focuses on enriching oral language practices with young children from diverse cultures to enhance their development.
