Waikato Management School will host a research seminar by Associate Professor Jane Baxter, Deputy Head of the School of Accounting at the University of New South Wales, on Wednesday, 21 November, starting at 1pm.
The topic of the seminar is ‘Accountability, Distance-Repair and Public-Private partnerships’, and it's open to all staff and students.
Using a case study of a prison in Western Australia run by Serco, Dr Baxter’s research examines the constitution of accountability in the governance of public-private partnerships, whereby the government and private sector companies work together to provide public infrastructure and social services.
Dr Baxter says PPPs often present a challenge in terms of accountability because the two partners have differing objectives.
Dr Baxter teaches and conducts research in the fields of management accounting and qualitative research methods. She is editor-in-chief of the Australian Journal of Management, a Fellow of CPA Australia, and won the Best Manuscript Award in Management Accounting at the AFAANZ conferences in 2017 and 2018.
Her research projects have focused on performance measurement, accounting and emotions, accounting and strategy, the work of the Chief Financial Officer, and accountability.
Dr Baxter has published in a number of international peer reviewed journals including, Accounting, Organizations and Society, the Journal of Management Studies, Management Accounting Research, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, the Journal of Management Accounting Research, Behavioral Research in Accounting, and ABACUS.
