The New Zealand Institute for Business Research (NZIBR) invites staff and students to an inspiring presentation by New Zealand Police Inspector Freda Grace, being held on Monday, 25 November at 12 noon.

A trailblazer for women, when Inspector Grace joined the New Zealand Police in 1984 she was one of only six women in her wing.

After a short time in Counties-Manukau, Freda has spent the majority of her policing career in the Waikato District, working in a wide range of roles on the frontline, in rural stations, the Police Support Unit, Prosecutions, Community Policing, the Operations Group, and as a Staff Sergeant and Tactical Coordinator.

In 2015 she became Waikato District's first female Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) Commander, which was a huge achievement. At the time, Freda was the only woman in the country in command of an AOS squad.

Since then her career has gone from strength to strength. Now Inspector Grace heads the Special Tactics Group in Wellington, with responsibility for New Zealand’s STG deployments nationally, the Armed Offenders Squad, Police Negotiators, Specialist Search Groups, the Police National Dive Squad.

While leading an organisation within this complex environment, Inspector Grace was recently awarded the Australasian Council of Women and Policing Excellence in Policing Award, where it was recognised that she "leads with authenticity, courage and wisdom”.

She has broken down “perceived barriers surrounding the advancement of women in the New Zealand Police and takes the time to guide others along the path she has blazed".

Freda says she loves the challenge of policing and is proud of the positive contribution that NZ Police make in the community every day.

Please bring your own lunch, refreshments will be provided.
