Journey into the world of publishing with one of New Zealand’s foremost publishers Fergus Barrowman, from Victoria University Press, publisher of authors including Man Booker Prize Winner Eleanor Catton.
Throughout his publishing career, Fergus has contributed to the teaching and assessment of New Zealand's leading creative writing programme, Victoria University of Wellington’s International Institute of Modern Letters.
Fergus has been the Publisher of Victoria University Press since 1985. In 1988 he founded the literary magazine Sport, which he continues to edit and publish. In 1996 he edited The Picador Book of Contemporary New Zealand Fiction. He was awarded an MNZM in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours
Victoria University Press is a leading New Zealand publisher of scholarly non-fiction, and fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction. Founded in the 1970s. It now publishes approximately 30 new titles per year, in print and electronic formats, and has won many New Zealand and international awards. Writers include 2013 Man Booker Prize winner Eleanor Catton, Elizabeth Knox, Rebecca Priestley, Bill Manhire, Damien Wilkins, Catherine Chidgey, Tracey Slaughter, Jenny Bornholdt, Dylan Horrocks, Hera Lindsay Bird, Ashleigh Young, Tayi Tibble, essa may ranapiri and many other leading New Zealand writers.
A conversation with Fergus Barrowman is in collaboration with the New Zealand Writers Festival and the University of Waikato and will be held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, starting at 12.00pm. Doors will open approximately at 11.50am. Free parking is available on campus via Gate 2B, Knighton Road, Hamilton.
