This concert celebrates the music and life of Professor Martin Lodge, composer, scholar, colleague, friend. He has taught at the University for 27 years, contributing to a new performing arts facility, a Māori Music stream in the BMus degree, the accession of the John Mansfield Thomson Archive, and commissioning a set of taonga pūoro from instrument-maker Brian Flintoff. Martin’s music has been widely performed and he has been appointed to the Auckland Philharmonia Composer Residency, the Mozart Fellowship, Stout Fellowship and Pah Homestead Artist Residency. Performers including Horomona Horo, Peter Scholes, The New Zealand Chamber Soloists, Luca Manghi, Rachael Griffiths-Hughes, Maria Mo, and Xu Tang, will play a selection of Martin’s chamber music, some tribute pieces, and music dear to his heart including Beethoven, Debussy and Douglas Lilburn.
