Bassoonist Dr. Jacqueline Wilson (Yakama) is a performer, composer, and advocate who currently serves as Assistant Professor of Bassoon at Washington State University (USA). Wilson’s creative activity centers underrepresented lived experiences, with a focus on elevating Indigenous voices. In this program, she is joined by percussionist Christopher Wilson for a concert of works for the bassoon by Indigenous composers, including original works and commissions by Connor Chee (Navajo), Jack Kilpatrick (Cherokee), Raven Chacon (Navajo), and others. Her lecture recital will include discussions of Native North American powwow dances and the Assimilation Era policies that introduced Classical music to the tribal nations of the United States.
