Miriam Dean CNZM, is a Queen’s Counsel and one of New Zealand’s most accomplished lawyers, with 38 years’ experience in commercial dispute resolution, specialising in competition, consumer and regulatory law.
In this public lecture, Miriam will give an overview of her career, what she knows now, and what she wishes she’d known 30, 20 or even 10 years ago. Miriam will talk about the barriers that can hold women back, and offer insight into how best to overcome them in order to create a career vision.
The session will draw on her experience as a lawyer, mediator, director and reviewer, and her commitment to supporting exceptional young women to become leaders of tomorrow. Miriam will discuss ways to improve personal impact and influence, and will talk about the importance of mentorship and sponsorship in the different stages of career development.

About Miriam Dean
Miriam Dean CNZM completed her Bachelor of Social Sciences at the University of Waikato in 1977, and went on to do a Bachelor of Laws in Auckland, followed by a Master of Laws at Harvard. Miriam has forged a highly successful career as a lawyer, and is committed to supporting young women leaders. Miriam has represented clients in a diverse range of industries including energy, aviation, banking, dairy, and real estate, and is an experienced mediator of commercial disputes.
