The University of Waikato Library is hosting the International Board on Books for Young People’s (IBBY) Silent Book exhibition featuring 67 picturebooks from 16 countries, originally collected for the library for refugees arriving in Lampedusa, Italy.
Silent picturebooks are also known as wordless picturebooks and visual narratives. The absence of words means that readers follow the story using the illustrations. The exhibition is supported by Storylines, the New Zealand section of IBBY, and the Waikato Picturebook Research Unit (WaiPRU). It is funded by the Division of Education, University of Waikato. The exhibition is accompanied by activities provided by the Worlds of Words Center at the University of Arizona
