ERI Seminar Series: “Mitigation of methane emissions using the red seaweed Asparagopsis”

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Marie Magnusson is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Waikato. She is based at the marine field station in Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty, where she is the lead researcher in an Entrepreneurial Universities funded research program focusing on macroalgal (both fresh and marine) biotechnologies; developing novel science to grow a new high value industry in the Bay of Plenty based on producing macroalgae biomass and derived bioproducts and bioactives. Dr Magnusson has over 10 years of experience in the fields of algal biology, biochemistry, and product development, with research being focused on the development of algal biomass and extracts for human food and nutra- and pharmaceutical products, and biotechnology. Specific research interests are the development and empirical testing of biorefinery models to maximize biomass utilization and value for macroalgae grown in the bioremediation of aquaculture and municipal waste waters.
