Environmental Research Institute (ERI) Seminar Series: "Overview of TAIAO: Time-evolving data science platform"
|Date||Wednesday 11 March 2020|
|Time||12pm - 1pm|
|Presenter||Professor Karin Bryan and Professor Albert Bifet|
The University of Waikato is the host organisation for TAIAO, the new MBIE-funded
Environmental Data Platform. The purpose of the platform is to provide new methods of
studying, storing and accessing environmental data, and to overcome some of the
challenges imposed by these data types, such as predicting extremes, separating multiple
scales, coping with drift, improving accuracy and assessing uncertainty. Here we explain
the concept of “data scientist” (e.g. the differences between an environmental scientist
who works with data, and an environmental data scientist), and provide an overview of the
types of innovations that could feed into a wide range of environmental science
applications. We will overview the data science research strands, the partnerships that we
are establishing (or hope to establish), and our vision for the future.
