The Persistence and Problem of Religion.
Fifty years ago scholars claimed the end of religion was nigh and recently some at the fringe of religion have been touting its imminent end. But the world is still here; and religion persists, although not without problems. Why is religion so persistent? And what are we to make of contemporary issues, such as extremism and terrorism, often associated with religion? Professor Douglas Pratt will discuss some of the factors and issues affecting religion in today's world and outline his model for understanding the nature of its persistence and its associated problems.
The Opus Bar will be open from 5pm
