'Nurturing the learning: getting stuck in together!'
The conference has three general aims:
- to report research in, cooperative education in New Zealand.
- to report on best practice & innovative features
- to debate topical issues
It also is intended the conference may help practitioners involved in work integrated learning and NZACE members enhance their research capability. Input and papers from overseas practitioners would be welcome.
Reflecting these aims, the annual conference will have streams of: best practice; topical issues; and, research. Papers will be accepted for the program on the basis of a one page 'structured' abstract (contact mccurdys@waikato.ac.nz for instructions). Papers will be accepted for the published proceedings on the basis of a five page paper, subject to peer review (contact mccurdys@waikato.ac.nz for instructions).
Our theme, 'getting stuck in together' is a reflection of the involvement of cooperative education students with Hamilton Zoo. Only two students each year have the opportunity to do this one year placement where they are trained as a full-time animal keepers. They also work on academically related assessments, usually an in depth animal behaviour study. The conference will host a session with the Head Keeper discussing her views of the student presence as well as past students and their views on their learning while on a 'Zoo placement'.
