As the original owners, governors and Kaitiaki of Aotearoa, Māori have a unique and fundamental place in New Zealand confirmed in perpetuity by the Treaty of Waitangi. In this inaugural address, Professor Brad Morse will seek to situate the legal, political and economic place of Māori in a broader global context that involves a comparison with the rights of Indigenous peoples in Canada, Australia and the USA as well as emerging international law standards.
The University of Waikato Inaugural Professorial Lectures showcase some of the latest research from our newest professors and are free and open to the public.
